Conro and Sons, Groundworks and Civil Engineering Ltd was formed by its sole Director, Colm Shine in 2017. Colm made the decision to form his own company due to an increased desire from his client base for his personal professional input into their respective projects at both a supervisory and managerial level. Conro and Sons commenced the provision of services and skilled labour at all levels for numerous large national companies on deep drainages schemes, commercial residential and private sector groundwork packages, with up to 60 employees covering the various schemes.

Since 2017 Conro and Sons has continued to grow within the civil engineering and groundworks sector of the construction industry. This growth has been enabled through the company success’s and the reinvestment of returns into the business.

 

In 2022 Conro and Sons recognised the need for the provision of a new service to its client base. As a result a combined service team has been developed which has been trained and equipped to carry out push camera drain surveys, ground penetration radar surveys and drone surveys.

 

Colm and the Conro team pride themselves on their adaptability and always adopts a can do attitude, in fact a will do attitude is held throughout the business. Whilst maintaining high quality work standards and a continued adherence to all the current safety legislation. Every member of the team regardless of their position embraces this work ethic installed by Colm from the onset of trading. Health & Safety

Colm and the team have born witness to the many changes within the construction industry over the years particularly regarding the health and safety of the workplace. As a result as a company it has maintained a high level of training and personal development for the workforce to meet the demands of all current legislation and its statutory requirements. Led by Colm the team is acutely aware of the financial ramifications of not meeting target and its passion to make it happen is welcomed through its client base.

 

Conro produces site safety reports, progress and valuation reports weekly. Due to the teams analytical attributes it is able to produce these reports in a detailed and meaningful manner for both the client and the workforce.

 

As a company we adopt an attitude/ethos that communication is key! Colm and the team have good communication skills both written and oral. A high level of communication will be maintained at all times on all projects through a network of nominated individuals at all levels, site, to director, to client. Conro will also nominate on every project a liaison officer to interact at ground level with anyone who is affected by our work activities. One of the Conro strengths is its ability to build long term mutually beneficial relationships with its clients and suppliers through good communication.

 

As a business all at Conro and Sons are aware of the potential impacts our work activities can have on habitats, flora and fauna. It accepts the responsibility of protecting what we have now and protecting the environment for the future generations. Each project that the company is engaged in will be environmentally assessed as part of our prestart activities. All waste where possible will be recycled, reused or reclaimed. Failing that it will be disposed of in accordance with the local authority guidelines. Conro holds a upper tier waste carrier license. All materials hazardous to the workforce and the environment will be assessed and stored under our stringent COSHH procedures and the manufacturers guidelines.

 

Site specific and detailed risk assessments and method statements will be produced internally prior to starting any work activities. They are submitted to the client/designer on a issue status 1 and are constantly reviewed. Once signed off these are communicated to the workforce and a hard copy held in the site file. Adherence to the method statement and the safe systems or work will be maintained by the supervisory team. The understanding of health and safety will be monitored and reviewed through regular site audits and toolbox talks.

Training

Conro and Sons Ltd believe that to allow for its continued growth it needs to invest in its workforce. This investment is not solely renumeration. The management team believes that that the continued investment in training will not only personally develop the team and give them a feeling of self worth it will enhance our business model through its multi-skilled workforce.

 

Recognising the pressures of todays society both in the workplace and at home Conro identified the need for mental health support. As a result we have provided Mental Health First Aider training, one individual at site level, supervisory and managerial level has been trained. As a company we promote a ‘’ our door is always open’’ to all members of the team.
